'Modi ji's ministers got five dalit students ostracised and suspended,' Arvind Kejriwal said on Twitter.
New Delhi:
Arvind Kejriwal today targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the suicide of a student who was banned from a hostel in Hyderabad's Central University. The incident has taken a political turn with union minister Bandaru Dattatreya being accused of a role in the suicide and interfering in the university.
Bandaru Dattatreya has rubbished allegations that he aided Rohith's suicide with his letter to Education Minister Smriti Irani in August.
Mr Dattatreya had written that the university had become a "den of casteist, extremist and anti-national politics," referring to Rohith and other students who had taken out a protest march in August against the execution of 1993 Mumbai blasts convict Yakub Memon.
Five students including Rohith were accused of attacking an activist from the BJP's youth wing Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad during that demonstration. The university first said there was no evidence of the attack, but later reversed its decision and punished the students.
Rohith and his comrades were banned from the hostel and other common areas of the university, and allowed only to attend classes. Students allege that Mr Dattatreya's letter was a big factor in the university's action.
