Arvind Kejriwal Owes PM Narendra Modi Unqualified Apology, says BJP

BJP says Arvind Kejriwal should tender an unqualified apology to the Prime Minister for using words like coward.

New Delhi: The ruling BJP has demanded an "unqualified apology" from Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal for his words against Prime Minister Narendra Modi this morning.

"Kejriwal should tender an unqualified apology to the Prime Minister for using words like coward. What he said is uncalled for, unwarranted, shameful and condemnable," said Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.

Responding to the demand, Mr Kejriwal's deputy, Manish Sisodia, said: "You apologise for your actions, we'll apologise for our words." He accused the BJP of "misusing the CBI just like the Congress did."

Mr Kejriwal alleged this morning that his office had been raided by the Central Bureau of Investigation or CBI and in a strong attack on PM Modi tweeted, "When Modi cudn't handle me politically, he resorts to this cowardice," and also, "Modi is a coward and a psycopath."

The government and the BJP have denied that Mr Kejriwal's office was raided or sealed, as has the CBI, which said it only searched the office of bureaucrat Rajender Kumar, principal secretary to the Delhi chief minister, on allegations of corruption.

Mr Prasad said Mr Kejriwal's office was "not touched," adding that the CBI is not required by law to seek the permission of a chief minister to raid an official. "The CBI had a proper search warrant issued by a competent court....I hope the CBI will be allowed to work without pressure," Mr Prasad sad, accusing Mr Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party of "politicising a corruption case."

Earlier in the day, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley told Parliament that "the office of the chief minister of Delhi has not been raided. The raid has nothing to do with Mr Arvind Kejriwal or his tenure as chief minister. The search is against an officer."

The CBI said Rajender Kumar is accused of corruption in computer purchases and claimed that it found about Rs 13 lakh in cash and foreign currency worth Rs  3 lakh in the raids today on the bureaucrat and another person.

Mr Kejriwal alleged, "FM lied in Parliament. My own office files are being looked into to get some evidence against me. Rajender is an excuse."

AAP said the CBI sealed an entire floor in the Delhi secretariat while conducting the raids, not allowing access even to the Chief Minister's office.
