New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal will visit Ralegan Siddhi village in Maharashtra today, where his one-time mentor Anna Hazare is on a hunger strike to demand that the anti-corruption Lokpal Bill be passed in the ongoing winter session of Parliament.

Last evening, Mr Kejriwal publicly met over 4000 volunteers and newly-elected legislators of his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) at Jantar Mantar in Delhi and thanked them for ensuring that a political party launched just a year ago by the tax-commissioner-turned-activist landed 28 of Delhi's 70 Assembly seats. AAP placed second, only three seats short of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) 31.

Mr Kejriwal said the party would need more funds to contest Lok Sabha elections and urged people to donate generously. But he did not say in how many states and seats the AAP would contest Lok Sabha elections in.

The party also hinted that one of its leaders Kumar Vishwas would contest against Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi from Amethi. (Read: AAP hints it may put up Kumar Vishwas against Rahul)

Addressing the crowd, Mr Kejriwal reiterated that he will not be pressured into trying to form government in Delhi and lashed out at the BJP, the single largest party in the new Assembly, for not doing so. However, he appealed to "clean" people "frustrated" with the Congress and the BJP to join his party in the fight against corruption.

Anna and Mr Kejriwal had in 2011, engineered a huge anti-graft movement that electrified middle class India. The apogee of the campaign was a 16-day fast by Anna in Delhi which drew thousands of people every day, and impelled street protests in other cities.

Mr Kejriwal and Anna parted ways last year after the former decided to launch the Aam Aadmi Party. Anna said he could not be associated with a political organisation.

However, last week, Anna expressed happiness over the AAP's performance in the Delhi elections and said Mr Kejriwal could become chief minister one day. (Read: Anna Hazare happy with Aam Aadmi Party's performance)
