New Delhi:
Yet another Aam Aadmi Party lawmaker was arrested by the Delhi Police on Saturday night, taking the total number of AAP leaders arrested in the last one year to 12.
Sharad Chauhan, a lawmaker from North-West Delhi's Narela, has been arrested in the suicide case of a party worker.
AAP worker Soni had consumed poison and died in hospital on July 19, days after she had filed a molestation complaint against fellow party worker, Ramesh Bhardwaj, for allegedly touching her inappropriately. Bhardwaj was arrested but later released on bail.
Her family says she was depressed since his release. In a video statement, she had accused Bhardwaj of pressuring her to "compromise" if she wanted to rise in the party.
She had also alleged that Bhardwaj was being protected by local MLA Sharad Chauhan.
After his arrest, the party once again accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of targeting its leaders.
"If PM acts with such anger/vengeance then is country safe!," tweeted AAP leader Ashutosh. He also said that instead of appreciating the "great job" done by AAP government in Delhi, the PM was arresting its legislators.
"Great initiatives are taken by Delhi government in education and health. Instead of praising (them), Modi is sending AAP MLAs to jail. Is (the) country safe in his hands?"
