Bad Weather Hits Chief Minister Khattar, Chopper Survey Of Gurgaon Jam Cancelled

New Delhi: Haryana chief minister ML Khattar wanted to inspect Gurgaon, where flooded roads have caused giant traffic jams, but his helicopter could not take off today from Chandigarh because of bad weather.

As reports poured in of the commute between Delhi and Gurgaon stretching to hours on Thursday evening and even Friday morning, Mr Khattar has been assailed with complaints and taunts on social media about poor infrastructure in Gurgaon.

The Haryana chief minister retweeted one such comment to highlight what he called his frustration with "non-cooperation by the Delhi government" and suggested that questions be directed at Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.The BJP government in Haryana says that a large amount of water exits Gurgaon through the Najafgarh drain, which flows through Delhi but is blocked partly, flooding the city. This morning the Gurgaon Police advised the thousands who travel from Delhi to Gurgaon for work to stay away. Schools are closed for two days and people were advised to avoid roads till afternoon.

Mr Kejriwal, who leaves tomorrow for a 12-day meditation course in Nagpur, has not responded to Mr Khattar, but joined the attack on the Haryana government with several retweets and said, "Thats BJP's governance."

His deputy Manish Sisodia, who will be in charge in Delhi when Mr Kejriwal is on leave, tweeted, "Just renaming Gurgaon as Gurugram does not mean development. For development, you need plans and execution. Jumlon se Jam Nahin Khulega (platitudes won't resolve jams)."

The Congress's Randeep Surjewala tweeted, "Quicker to reach New York from Delhi then Delhi-Gurgaon. BJP & @mlkhattarGovt. destroying Gurgaon as India's global hub. #16HoursOfJam The shambolic #16HoursOfJam in Gurgaon is @mlkhattar's launch of#BrakeInHaryana?
