Ahmedabad: A local court in Gandhinagar remanded Asaram Bapu to four-day custody of the Ahmedabad police in connection with a second case of sexual assault against the controversial preacher.
Asaram, already facing jail term in Jodhpur for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old school girl, has again been accused of rape by one of the two Surat-based sisters at his Ahmedabad ashram between 1997 and 2006.
The younger sister, around 40, has accused Asaram's son Narayan Sai of raping her between 2002 and 2005 when she was living in their Surat ashram.
The Ahmedabad police, late yesterday evening, brought the 72-year-old preacher from Jodhpur on a transfer warrant to the city.
The public prosecutor argued in court that the custody of Asaram was necessary for further investigation into the case.
The prosecutor also informed the court that the investigators wanted to physically examine the place in the ashram where the self-styled godman is alleged to have raped the woman, now in her mid-40s.
Meanwhile, hearing on the anticipatory bail application filed by Narayan Sai in a Surat court has been deferred till October 17.
