New Delhi:
The Supreme Court today denied bail to self-styled 'godman' Asaram, who had applied for bail on medical grounds.
The top court granted two weeks' time to Asaram's lawyers to look into the report submitted by the medical board consisting of AIIMS doctors.
72-year-old Asaram had applied for bail in the Supreme Court by submitting a medical report by a Jodhpur hospital, which recommended a surgery, stating that he was suffering from trigeminal neuralgia. Trigeminal neuralgia causes severe pain in the face or the forehead of the patient afflicted with it.
The court then sought a fresh medical report from a medical board of AIIMS, rejecting his bail plea. He was taken to AIIMS for a checkup on Thursday.
Asaram was arrested in September 2013 after a 16-year-old girl lodged a police complaint in August that year, accusing him of sexually assaulting her at his ashram in Jodhpur.
