Ashram stampede: Action taken against cops

Allahabad: Two days after the stampede that killed over 60 women and children in an ashram in Pratapgarh, there has been some action finally.

The entire police staff of Mangarh in Pratapgarh, where the incident took place, has been suspended and a police inspector in Kunda has also been suspended.

However, the preliminary investigation report by the Allahabad Commissioner has clearly blamed the ashram authorities. (Read: Report blames ashram authorities for stampede)

The report says the administration did not take proper control of the situation before and after the incident. (In Pics: UP ashram stampede)

An FIR was also filed against unnamed people in the incident.

The ashram claims it had submitted a letter to the district administration about the event and crowds were expected but the state didn't make adequate arrangements to control the crowd.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has now put the onus of providing relief to the Centre. Now the same ashram trust headed by Kripalu Maharaj is preparing to hold another community meal in Vrindavan. It seems no lessons have been learnt. (Read: UP ashram trust plans another community meal)
