Guwahati:
Assam government is committed to work for the economic and social security of the tea community, including the small tea growers as they constitute a sizeable human resource, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has said.
"The state government is committed to bolster all round development of the tea community including small tea growers. The state government is also working to create a conducive atmosphere so that the tea tribe community can work to their optimum potential," Mr Sonowal said while addressing the 20th Annual General Conference of All Assam Small Tea Growers Association in Chabua town on Monday evening.
He lauded the contribution of the small tea growers to the state economy with 50 per cent of the total tea production being contributed by them.
The state government will take steps so that the small tea growers get the right price for their produce, he said. The Chief Minister said the government would give Rs one crore for the construction of the ongoing small tea growers association head office at Jorhat.
He said the government would do everything needed for a state-of-the-art museum in Dibrugarh so that the rich heritage as well as unparalleled contribution of the tea tribe can be preserved and documented.
The Chief Minister also called upon the people to extend their full support to the government and work with it to wipe out corruption from the system as only then the poorest member of the society would be able to live with respect and dignity.
