Guwahati:
The militants of North Cachar Hills have suspended violence for three months declaring ceasefire but the government says this is just a ploy to regroup themselves after their chairman's arrest.
Days after the arrest of their Chairman Jewel Garlosa, DHD(J) cadres are in a temporary camp at an undisclosed location in Assam.
In recent months the outfit has acquired an impressive inventory of long range weapons which was allegedly sponsored by Central funds meant for development.
After a terror run for months across North Cachar Hills, now they want ceasefire of hostilities.
"We have communicated to the government about unilateral ceasefire and we had done the same last year," said Commander DHD(J).
The government is resolute on its stand. No ceasefire.
"I don't think ceasefire is an answer at this point and I don't think groups like DHD(J) are serious about ceasefire," said G M Srivastava, DGP, Assam.
The DHD(J) had declared ceasefire in 2008 as well. The government refused to respond. But the refusal was countered with spiralling violence.
The government this time has three months to either fight to finish or engage them in talks. N C Hills cannot afford to go through another cycle of violence.
