Congress protesters clashed with the police during their march to the assembly on Wednesday.
The ongoing controversy over the exam scam cast its shadow on the opening day of the budget session in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly today.
The Congress, which had accused Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan of involvement in the scam, interrupted the opening speech by Governor Ram Naresh Yadav with repeated slogans, alleging his son Shailesh was involved in the matter as well.
The Governor had to cut short his speech and leave. The assembly was adjourned for the day.
Shailesh Yadav's name figured in the chargesheet in the case. He was allegedly named by one of the middle-men -- Veerpal Yadav -- in his statement to the Special Task Force.
"The Governor and his son are involved just like the Chief Minister. So we are demanding the resignation of both. We will not disrupt the proceedings of the House but will protest," said Leader of Opposition Satyadev Katare.
Earlier too, the Raj Bhavan had been linked with the MP Professional Examination Board scam after Governor's former Officer on Special Duty, Dhanraj Yadav, was arrested for his alleged role.
On Monday, Congress leader Digvijaya Singh had filed an affidavit with the Special Investigation Team monitoring the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board scam. He alleged that the data retrieved from the laptop of the main accused was tampered to shield the Chief Minister.
The Governor did not comment on the Congress protest. But home minister Babulal Gaur told NDTV, "In my 40 years in Vidhan Sabha I have never seen such protests against the Governor. If the Congress wanted to make a point against the Governor, they should have waited their turn."
After the House was adjourned, the Congress organised a rally to gherao the Assembly, demanding a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation against the Chief Minister and the Governor.
Over 300 party workers started marching towards the Assembly from Jahangirabad, which is one km away. But on the way, they were stopped by the police, who used water cannons to disperse the crowd. The leaders were arrested and later let off.
