At his mother's home at 10 Janpath in Delhi, Rahul Gandhi commented on the UP elections that he steered for the Congress with under-whelming results. "I take responsibility, I led the campaign," he said.

- In Punjab for the 1st time, an incumbent govt- BJP and Akali Dal has been voted back to power.
- In Uttar Pradesh, our results were not as we expected. I congratulate Mulayam Singh Yadav for getting the support of the people in UP. I do not want to comment on the Congress leadership, but this is a jolt to them.
- The BJP has won 26 seats in Goa. Even Catholics have voted for BJP.
- I hope we will be able to win Uttarakhand where we will be able to get 32-33 seats.

Uttarakhand - Trends for 65 of 70 show the BJP in front - leading in 29 seats. The Congress is leading in 20 seats and the BSP in six.
At 9.45 am, early leads show the Shiromani Akali Dal leading in 62 of 117 seats in Punjab. The Congress was leading in about 35.

Highlights from UP at this time;
- Samajwadi Party in clear lead at this time. Crowds start building up at party office in Lucknow.
- BSP being routed in UP
- Kalraj Mishra seen praying at BJP office in Lucknow.
- His prayers could be working. Huge gains for BJP; doing better in urban than rural areas; will it be second-largest party in UP?
