Ballia (Uttar Pradesh): At least 43 people have died after a boat with 70 passengers on-board capsized in river Ganga at Ballia in eastern Uttar Pradesh.
Bodies of all the 43 people have been recovered. Authorities near the accident site at village Dubahar in Balia district say the death toll is likely to climb even further.
The passengers who belonged to four families were reportedly participating in a religious ritual when the boat flipped over.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has ordered Rs 1 lakh compensation to the kin of all those who have been killed in the mishap.
