Kathmandu:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today made a brief reference to terror and the 26/11 Mumbai attack as he addressed the SAARC summit in Nepal.
In a speech in English that mainly focused on connectivity in the South Asian region, PM Modi said, "Today as we remember Mumbai terror attack, we feel endless pain of loss of lives. Let us work together to fulfill our pledge to combat terrorism and transnational crimes."
On the sixth anniversary of the attacks blamed on Pakistan-based terrorists, PM Modi had tweeted this morning, "Today is a day to reaffirm our commitment to work together to combat the menace of terror & uproot it from the face of humankind."
166 people were killed when 10 gunmen from Pakistan sneaked into Mumbai on November 26, 2008, and attacked key buildings in the country's financial capital. The attacks have been blamed on Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba.
Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is the only leader that PM Modi will not meet today in bilateral meetings on the sidelines of SAARC or the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation, a grouping that comprises Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan.
