CBI has arrested the Director of Chikalthana Airport in Aurangabad for allegedly taking bribe and carried out raids at his office and residence today.
Alok Varshney was caught yesterday while he was allegedly taking the bribe of Rs 10,000 for ground clearance work, CBI officials said.
On the basis of a complaint, the CBI sleuths yesterday laid a trap at Mr Varshney's airport office where he was caught, they said.
Searches are still underway at his residence and office at the airport, the officials added.
After he was caught, Mr Varshney was interrogated for three hours and later taken to Pune last night, CBI sources said.
CBI Spokesperson said a case was registered against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act on a complaint received from a private company based at Malad (West), Mumbai.
"The complainant had alleged that the Director, Airport Authority of India, posted at Aurangabad Airport (Maharashtra) was maintaining details of the non-scheduled flights and demanded bribe per flight from the ground handling private companies at Aurangabad Airport," the spokesperson said.
The official said it was further alleged by the complainant that the Director demanded bribe for allowing workers of his company to carry out the work of ground handling for non-scheduled flights at Aurangabad Airport.
There were earlier complaints of Mr Varshney's alleged involvement in malpractices related to contract of construction under the augmentation scheme of the airport, the sources said.
Superintendent of Police, CBI, MR Kadole refused to divulge any details of the property or valuables recovered from the director's residence and office.
