Mussoorie: Ruskin Bond, one of India's most beloved writers, and acclaimed children's author, turns 81 tomorrow. Mr Bond has more than 100 novels to his credit, and has won multiple awards, including the Sahitya Akademi Award for English writing in India, the Padma Shri and the Padma Bhushan.
NDTV caught up with the author in his hometown, Mussoorie, a few days before his birthday celebrations were to begin.
We found Mr. Bond busy at his desk, doing what he does best: writing. The prolific author insists that age has got nothing to do with feeling old and that it's all in the mind. The Indian writer of British descent shows no signs of slowing down. He plans to spend his birthday surrounded by family and close friends.
Mr Bond's fans will be thrilled to know that he promises to keep a date with his fans at the Cambridge Book Depot, Mussoorie, tomorrow where he will introduce two books 'Ranji's Bat and Other Stories' and 'Rusty,' a series of five novellas. There will also be a cake-cutting ceremony. Both new novels have been published by Penguin Books.
Ganesh Saili, a close friend of Mr Bond's, and co-author with him on many books, wished him a long, healthy life, so that he could give us more stories in the years to come
