New Delhi:
Research in Motion (RIM), the owners of Blackberry have sought more time for providing interception infrastructure.
RIM had earlier been given time till January to set up infrastructure. The company has assured the government that auto-interception of messenger services will be possible by January 31.
RIM says interception of Blackberry enterprise services to take 18-24 months.
Officials of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) met with RIM representatives in New Delhi today.
Sources have told NDTV that RIM wants an assurance that Blackberry services won't be banned in the intervening period. The government says while no assurances can be given, RIM should still put in place a interception infrastructure.
