New Delhi: An auto lifter, who stole over thousand vehicles in the past 20 years, has been arrested in connection with the murder of TV news producer Soumya Vishwanathan, police said on Monday.
Ajay Sethi was arrested by a special team of Delhi Police from Faridabad-Badarpur border last night and the car used in the crime was recovered, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) H G S Dhaliwal said.
Sethi was on the run since last month after four persons were arrested in connection with the murders of Vishwanathan and IT executive Jigisha Ghosh.
Police had been conducting raids to catch Sethi but he had given the investigators a slip.
Delhi Police on March 23 had arrested four persons -- Ravi Kapoor, Amit Kumar Shukla, Baljeet Malik and Vijay Kumar -- for their alleged involvement in murders of Viswanathan and Ghosh.
Dhaliwal said Sethi was given the Wagon-R car used in the crime from the group led by Kapoor, to dispose it.
"He is in the world of crime for the past 20 years and has stolen over thousand vehicles. He was also arrested many times," he said. Dhaliwal said Sethi's is a financially sound family and his son studies in a prominent school in Mussouri.
Viswanathan was found shot dead in her car on September 30 last year while returning home from work around 3.30 am while the body of Ghosh was found in Faridabad on March 19.
