Srinagar:
As most parts of Jammu and Kashmir experienced moderate to heavy snowfall for the past couple of days, authorities today issued a warning advising people not to venture out into avalanche-prone areas.
"In view of moderate to high danger avalanche warning in Drass-Kargil sector in Ladakh and medium danger warning in several parts of north and central Kashmir, people living in these areas are advised not to move or venture out into steep slopes during the next 24 hours," an official spokesman said.
People are also advised to remove snow from their rooftops to avoid any casualty due to house collapse, he said.
"In case of any eventuality people are asked to contact their respective Deputy Commissioners," the spokesman said.
Yesterday, two girls were killed in an avalanche in Gurez area in Bandipora district.
