Ayodhya: Security has been beefed up in Ayodhya in run up to the seventeenth anniversary of demolition of Babri Mosque on December 6 with the town being divided into six security zones.
Uttar Pradesh DGP Karamveer Singh and Principal Home Secretary Mahesh Gupta held a high level security meeting on Thursday and took stock of the prevailing situation.
Faizabad DC told PTI that extra forces have been demanded from the Centre for deployment in twin towns of Ayodhya-Faizabad.
Faizabad SSP RKS Rathore informed that Ayodhya has been divided into six security zones.
Four companies of Rapid Action Force, five companies of Provincial Armed Constabulary, fifty sub inspectors, five deputy SPs and around two hundred civil police constables will man these six security zones, he said.
In a letter to P Chidambaram two days ago, UP Chief Minister Mayawati had demanded that "Centre should exchange security related inputs and provide adequate number of RPF personnel to the state to maintain law and order in the wake of tabling of Liberhan Commission report in the Parliament".
The force is necessary for ensuring security at disputed sites in Ayodhya, Mathura and Varanasi, she had said adding political, religious and communal activities were gradually increasing the sensitivities in the state.
