The Supreme Court have announced the historic Ayodhya verdict today. The disputed land in Ayodhya will be given to a government-run trust for the building a temple and Muslims will be given a five-acre "suitable" plot in the town, the Supreme Court announced. A five-judge constitution bench delivered its decision at 10.30 am. The Ayodhya verdict comes after a century-old legal battle over a piece of land in Ayodhya where the 16th century Babri mosque stood before it was razed by Hindu activists who believe it is the birthplace of Lord Ram. It is the longest land dispute case in India. The daily hearings at the Supreme Court came to an end after 40 days on October 16. The verdict was reserved and set to be declared before November 17, when Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, who is leading the five-judge constitution bench hearing the case, is slated to retire. Schools and colleges are closed in several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi and Rajasthan ahead of the verdict.
