Lucknow, Rampur:

The rift between the two top Samajwadi Party (SP) leaders, Amar Singh and Mulayam Singh, over Azam Khan seems to be widening.

Amar singh has now threatened to resign saying Mulayam must take action by the last phase of polls on May 13.

The SP leader has also accused Mulayam of being partial towards Azam Khan, once a prominent Muslim face of the SP. Amar and Azam fell apart over the former's joining hands with Kalyan Singh.

Reacting to Amar Singh's resignation threat, Mulayam said, "We will settle the dispute after the elections."

Meanwhile, Azam Khan has accused Amar Singh of threatening him.

While addressing a public meeting in support of party candidate Jaya Prada, Singh said, "I am waiting for a shoe from Mr Azam Khan. I sincerely invite him to come forward and hand me over the shoe which he is supposed to have readied by now."

Going into a damage control mode, the SP leader said he would decide over continuing in the party after the end of final phase of general elections, referring to the party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav's statement that 'party mein rehna hai to Azam Khan ko khush rakhna hai' (If you want to remain in the party, you will have to keep Azam Khan happy).

"Azam Khan is favourite of Mulayam Singhji and in spite of his (Khan) intolerable utterances against me, I was being asked to keep silence," Singh said. (With PTI inputs)
