Lucknow: Test papers of the combined entrance examination for admission in B.Ed course in Uttar Pradesh were leaked in Farukkhabad district, leading to the cancellation of the exam scheduled for Wednesday, even as four persons have been arrested in this connection.
"Four persons have been arrested in Farukkhabad district last evening in this connection and computerised and handwritten copies of the B.Ed exam were recovered after which it was decided to cancel the test," Additional Director General of Police Brij Lal told reporters.
Acting of a tip off, police raided a photocopy shop in Mohammadabad town in Farukkhabad and recovered 600 copies of A series of question papers of General Knowledge, English and Hindi languages, he said.
"While six persons, including the shop owner, managed to escape from the spot, four others Brijesh Kumar, Pradeep Kumar, Sanjay Dubey and Saurabh were arrested from the shop," he said.
The ADG said that SP Farukkhabad faxed copies of the question papers to coordinator of the entrance examination Akhilesh Chaubey for verification.
"Chaubey confirmed that the copies recovered by police were that of B.Ed entrance examination and the question papers have been leaked," Brij Lal said.
An emergency meeting of the Lucknow University officials, including Vice-Chancellor and Registrar, was held late on Tuesday during which it was decided to cancel the examination.
Over 6 lakh aspirants were scheduled to appear in the examination being conducted by the Lucknow University to be held in 12 districts of the state.
"DIGs and SSPs of all the 12 districts were immediately asked to make necessary security arrangements in the wake of heavy turnout of aspirants," he said.
The ADG said that the 12 district magistrates concerned have been asked not to take out the question papers from the double locks.
The railway police was also asked to make adequate arrangements at railway stations to avert law and order problem in the wake of any protest by the aspirants.
Cancellation of the examination led to demonstrations and protest by aspirants at a number of places in the state including Meerut, Faizabad, Gokahpur and Azamgarh, sources said.
Brij Lal, however, claimed that barring minor incidents no major trouble was reported from any district due
to cancellation of the examination. "We are trying to ascertain the point from where the question paper was leaked and efforts are being made to arrest absconding accused," he said.
The university authorities said that fresh dates would be announced soon after consulting the state government.
