Badaun, UP: Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi today said that she will not go to Badaun, where two girls were gang-raped and murdered last week until she does something to fix the situation. "I will see to it that there are no more Badauns," she said.
In the last two weeks, Uttar Pradesh has seen three instances of rape including in Badaun, where two teenagers were gang-raped and found hanging from a tree.
The other two cases were reported in Azamgarh and Etawah.
Several politicians including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Bahujan Samaj Party Chief Mayawati have visited Badaun to meet the victims' family.
Meanwhile, Ms Gandhi said that the process is on to establish rape crisis centres.
This morning there was high drama outside the office of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav in Lucknow, where water cannons were used on hundreds of workers of the BJP, who were protesting over the increasing instances of crime against women in the state.
