New Delhi:
The Punjab and Haryana High Court has adjourned till April 5 the hearing in the two FIRs levelling serious criminal charges against former Haryana DGP SPS Rathore in the Ruchika molestation case after the CBI sought more time in the investigations.
Justice Sabina adjourned the case after CBI counsel Anmol Rattan Sidhu told the court that the agency was investigating the case and needed more time.
Sixty eight-year-old Rathore, who was recently injured in a knife attack on his face by a "psychologically imbalanced" youth outside a District Court in Chandigarh, was not present in the High Court though his lawyer-wife Abha was present.
The former DGP's interim bail granted by the High Court in the case on January 25 would continue till the next date of hearing.
The two fresh FIRs registered by the CBI last month on the basis of complaints by Ruchika's father S C Girhotra and brother Ashu, accuse Rathore of committing serious offences including attempt to murder, wrongful confinement, giving false evidence and doctoring the post mortem report of Ruchika, who committed suicide three years after being molested by the former IPS officer on August 12, 1990.
The former DGP had been convicted by the trial court and had given a punishment of six months' jail term and a fine of Rs 1,000 for molesting the budding tennis player.
