Communal tension showed no signs of let up in Mysore after two people were stabbed following a fresh wave of violence. A night curfew and a bandh were clamped in the city.
With this, five persons have been stabbed since Thursday night and three others killed in violence, which erupted over the alleged desecration of a Madrasa.
These factors make Saturday a testing time for the district administration.
And the brutal attack on CJP Yuva Morcha president Giridhar at a time when communal clashes have rocked Udayagiri, have made the police more cautious.
"It is still an uneasy calm. So in this situation it is not advisable to have a bandh, which may require an elaborate police presence," said Police Commissioner Sunil Agarwal.
It is close to midnight and special officers of the state government, drafted by the Mysore police, are getting ready to go around the city appealing for peace.
The RAF and other units have also been brought in to curb violence in pockets of Mysore. The police are doing all they can, but clearly this is a crisis more than Mysore has handled this far.
