Three security personnel - two personnel of the (Central Reserve Police Force) and one cop of the Jammu and Kashmir Police - died in the line of duty this morning in a terror attack in J&K's Baramulla district, about 50 km from Srinagar.
A joint team of the CRPF and J&K Police were on duty at a check-post at Kreeri, officials said, when some terrorists fired at them. "We have lost three jawans in the attack. Reinforcement has been rushed to the spot. We are confirming the details," said Vijay Kumar, Inspector General of Police.
Soon after the terror attack, a search operation was launched to track down the attackers. One terrorist was killed in an encounter this afternoon, police said; two more are believed to be trapped.
Sniffer dogs on trail helped security forces track the terrorists the managed to escape in the morning, officials said.
This is the third attack on the security forces in a week in Jammu and Kashmir.
On August 14, two policemen were killed and another was injured after a team of cops came under attack from terrorists at Nowgam on the outskirts of Srinagar.
"Terrorists fired indiscriminately upon police party near Nowgam Bypass. 3 police personnel injured. They were shifted to hospital for treatment where two among them attained martyrdom (sic)," the Kashmir Zone Police had said in a tweet.
The attack was caught on CCTV, which suggested security lapses that allowed the terrorists to escape.
On August 12, an army soldier was injured after a Quick Reaction Team (QRT) of Army was attacked at Hygam along Srinagar-Baramulla highway.
