Battle for Tamil Nadu: Rahul's Tamil card

Battle for Tamil Nadu: Rahul's Tamil card
Sivaganga:

Rahul Gandhi's first stop in Tamil Nadu was the Sivaganga constituency where he was campaigning for Home Minister P Chidambaram.

With the Lankan Tamils' issue taking center stage ahead of the May 13th polls in the State, Rahul chose to play the Tamil card. But, he stopped short of calling for a separate homeland for Lankan Tamils, a cause championed by his key ally Chief Minister Karunanidhi.

"Our Government if elected will do everything possible to help the Lankan Tamils get their rights," said Rahul Gandhi.

The numbers favour Jayalalithaa who has many former allies of the UPA. But this first campaign by a high profile Congress Leader seems to have boosted the morale of party workers.

"Rahul's campaign will further strengthen our alliance and help us to win all 40 seats," opined a local.

However, Rahul Gandhi refrained from speaking about any possible post poll alliance with the AIADMK. His comments on this had created a controversy a few days ago.
