Battlefield Rampur: Test of Mulayam-Kalyan friendship
Rampur:

Campaigns are often about accusations and counter accusations, and these elections, we've seen it all. But there is one big battle in Rampur that's like no other. Accusations within the party are bound to cost the Samajwadi Party.

It's the battle of the begums - Jaya Prada and Noor Bano - in one of the nastiest campaigns this polls. The constituency has 50 per cent Muslims, and with Samajwadi Party's senior leader Azam Khan backing Congress candidate Noor Bano, the official SP candidate and current MP Jaya Prada is feeling the heat.

Azam Khan says the party has lost the Muslim vote.

"How can we be friends with someone who is responsible for the demolition of Babri Masjid and the killing of so many people. He is definitely our enemy," said Azam.

Jaya Prada is going all out. Her supporters say she will get the sympathy vote. The reason of it being Azam Khan's dirty campaign against her will boomerang.

"People are praying for me in the temples and mosques. All the youth, women are supporting me," said Jaya Prada.

Rampur is one of the 14 constituencies that voted on Wednesday and together they represent a whopping 34 per cent of the Muslim vote, which is the highest in the state. It was also the best litmus test of Mulayam's friendship with Kalyan Singh.
