BCCI addresses the media on IPL spot-fixing: Highlights

Chennai: The Working Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) met today to discuss the IPL spot-fixing controversy and held a press conference afterwards. Here are highlights of the media briefing:

• We have asked Delhi Police to share information.
• We have also offered the Delhi Police all possible assistance.
• Ravi Sawani appointed commissioner to probe spot-fixing allegations.
• We will decide further course of action after the internal inquiry report is submitted.
  
• We are handicapped as we have no power to take action against bookies.
• Committee decided that henceforth all players' agents will have to be accredited with the BCCI.
• We will closely monitor people who have access to players in the future.
  
• We have information only about the three players arrested so far. We don't know if others are involved.
• We have to observe all canons of justice.
• If the players are found guilty, strict action will be taken.
• BCCI will not cover up for anybody.
  
• We had invited the management of Rajasthan Royals to team to attend the meeting.
• Will intensify the education programme for players that we already have -- what is fair, what they should do and not do, and the deterrents in place.
• Whether betting should be legalised is a separate argument.
• We understand the Rajasthan Royals' management will file a complaint against the players.
• We are a private body, Right to Information (RTI) Act does not apply to us. 
• The Anti-Corruption Unit of the BCCI has limitations. It cannot gather information like the police do.
