Sources say at least 17 members from the various state units have backed Mr Srinivasan, who is under immense pressure to quit in the wake of his son-in-law being arrested for betting.
Reportedly, a consensus seems to have emerged at the dinner against seeking Mr Srinivasan's ouster at this juncture. On his part, Mr Srinivasan is said to have proposed a life ban for his son-in-law, Gurunath Meiyappan, in case he is found guilty. Today, the BCCI announced that Mr Meiyappan has been suspended from all cricket-related activities pending a probe.
Mr Srinivasan was among the early arrivals at yesterday's dinner party and is learnt to have discussed the issue with IPL Chairman Rajeev Shukla and Mr Dalmiya.
Earlier in the day, Mr Srinivasan made it clear that he has no intentions of stepping down as he has done no wrong. He said he could not be "bulldozed or railroaded into resigning."
