Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj after a meeting of BJP leaders on Sunday
New Delhi:
As they met in Parliament for what promises to be an acrimonious monsoon session, union minister Sushma Swaraj and Congress president Sonia Gandhi greeted each other in the Lok Sabha. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also joined in and exchanged pleasantries with the Congress leader.
The Congress has warned that it will not allow any business in this session unless Sushma Swaraj and other BJP leaders caught in various controversies are removed. Ms Swaraj, the foreign minister, has been attacked for helping disgraced cricket boss Lalit Modi with his travel papers in Britain.
None of the bitterness was visible as the rival leaders met in the house.
The Lok Sabha adjourned after obituary references but in the Rajya Sabha, an early adjournment was forced by opposition protests. The Congress demanded a discussion on the Lalit Modi controversy and other alleged scandals confronting the ruling BJP.
