Kolkata: A total of 9776 people including a 103-year old man residing in the enclaves in CoochBehar district would exercise their franchise for the first time in the sixth phase Assembly poll on Thursday.
Among 14,864 population of 51 enclaves' six Assembly constituencies - Mekhliganj (584), Sitalkuchi (1980), Sitai (1362), Dinhata (5605), Natabari (0) and Tufanganj (9), out of 9540 eligible voters 9209 enrolled themselves to vote May 5 in 41 polling stations, Additional CEO Dibyendu Sarkar said in Kolkata on Monday.
There were 567 more voters among the 922 people in the settlements in Coochbehar, he said while showing a presentation on the enclave that became an Indian territory on August one, last year.
"The total number of voters is 9,776 who will vote for the first time on Thursday," he said.
Interestingly, there was no voter in Natabari constituency's two enclaves as nobody resides there, though three polling stations have been allotted there.
India and Bangladesh had signed a Land Boundary Agreement last year. Under the agreement Bangladesh had transferred 51 enclaves to India while India transferred 111 to the neighbouring country.
"We have conducted voter awareness camp and trained them in every aspect way so that they do not face with any problem while voting," Mr Sarkar said.
