A day after the Bengal government struck it down, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee insisted on a CBI inquiry for a fair probe into the West Midnapore train tragedy.

Calling the Gyaneshwari train derailment a heinous and brutal murder, Mamata said that whosoever is behind the train crash should be punished.

"This is our government. We will decide what to do and what not to do. I think the passengers' life is more important. More than 150 people have been killed. This is a heinous crime. Whoever is the culprit should be booked. There will be no compromise with the safety and security of passengers. I am very serious about it, and I won't leave any stone unturned," she said.

Earlier, downplaying her absence from the Union Cabinet meeting, Mamata said there are no differences between her party and Congress and she will attend the UPA report card meeting.

"There are no differences between Trinamool Congress and Congress...we are absolutely comfortable...I have great respect for the Prime Minister," Banerjee said after she skipped the cabinet meeting, which was convened to take a decision on recommending President's Rule in Jharkhand. Banerjee said that she did not attend the meeting as it was "only for Jharkhand...a very simple meeting and she was doing some serious job here."

To a question on whether she will attend UPA's report card meeting, she said, "Yes, of course, I will be going there." (Read: Mamata downplays absence from Cabinet meet)
