Bhai Dooj, also known as Bhai Phonta, celebrates the bond between brothers and sisters. The day marks the culmination of the five-day-long Diwali festivities in many states. Every year, Bhai Dooj is celebrated two days after the festival of lights.
As per the Hindu calendar, Bhai Dooj is observed on the dwitiya tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Kartik. The day is also known as Bhau Beej, Bhai Dwitiya and Bhathru Dwithiya. In southern states, this day is celebrated as Yama Dwitiya.

The Dwitiya Tithi, as per the Hindu calendar, begins at 02:42 PM on October 26 and will end at 12:45 PM on October 27. The shubh muhurat to perform the rituals is between 01:12 PM to 03:27 PM on October 26.
Bhai Dooj 2022: Important Rituals
– Sisters prepare the pooja thali by placing a diya, roli, chawal, fruits, flowers, moli, and sweets.
– Sisters perform aarti and apply tilak or tika on the forehead of their brothers and offer sweets to them. At the time of the tilak ritual, sisters pray for the well-being and happiness of their brothers.
– Both brothers and sisters have to fast till the pooja is done.
