Jaipur:
Bishnaram gang member, Ashok Bishnoi, who was wanted in the Bhanwari Devi murder case, surrendered before the police today.
He surrendered in Jaloda village of Jodhpur district early in the morning and will now be handed over to the CBI.
Four other members of the gang, which was allegedly involved in the disposal of Bhanwari Devi's body, had been arrested earlier. Three more accused-- Pukhraj, Dinesh and Indra-- are still absconding.
Bhanwari Devi, a nurse who lived near Jodhpur, disappeared from near her home in September last year. Four months after she went missing, her remains were found by police divers in a canal located about 100 kms from Jodhpur.
The case has seen some high-profile arrests. The 36-year-old nurse had alleged affairs with political leaders including Congress leader and former state minister Mahipal Maderna. Bhanwari was reportedly blackmailing him with a sex CD.
Mr Maderna, who was forced to resign after she went missing and her liaison with him became public knowledge, has been arrested. Another Congress leader and Luni MLA Malkhan Singh, who reportedly introduced Bhanwari to him, is also under arrest.
Bhanwari's husband Amarchand Nat, who had filed a habeas corpus case seeking that the missing nurse be traced or at least her body be shown to him, has since been accused of assisting her killers. He was allegedly paid off to ensure that she travelled alone on the day that she was abducted from a bus. He is now under arrest.
Rajasthan police divers had found Bhanwari's watch, pieces of burnt bones, a tooth, a broken locket and a toe ring from the canal where her body was set on fire. The remains were then scattered into the Rajiv Gandhi Lift Canal near Jaloda village.
The divers also found the bat that was used to crush Bhanwari's skull after the CBI took two of the hired hitmen who allegedly played a key role in the murder and recreated the scene of the crime near the canal.
