Bhatta-Parsaul 'rapes': Arrest warrant against senior Uttar Pradesh cop
Noida: The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) has issued an arrest warrant against a senior Uttar Pradesh police officer for failing to investigate seven alleged rape cases in Bhatta-Parsaul villages.

The Commission had earlier sought registration of FIRs against policemen accused of raping seven women in Bhatta and Parsaul villages during an agitation by farmers in May this year. It had also summoned Gautam Budh Nagar Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Jyoti Narayan, to submit status report in the cases. The SSP however remained absent for four consecutive hearings.

The twin villages in Greater Noida were the epicentre of bitter protests against Chief Minister Mayawati's land acquisition policies in May-June this year.

Following the clashes between protesters and police in the villages and neighbouring areas, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi had visited the affected farmers and alleged that burnt bodies were found and women were raped. The UP government, however, denied the charges.
