Bhopal: Early to school, early to home

Bhopal: It's only April, but across large areas in the country the heat is becoming unbearable. And Bhopal is already scorching four degrees above normal.

So, in parts of Madhya Pradesh, the government has ordered a change in school timings. All schools will now start at 7 am and close by 12 noon.

"The administration has decided that schools should remain open till 12 noon so that all the children can go back home at an appropriate time and they are safe from hassles of sunstroke," Bhopal Collector Shiv Shekhar Shukla said.

The sweltering heat has been keeping many students away as most schools start between 8 and 9 am and continued till 3 to 4 in the afternoon. But the new summer timings have brought some much needed cheer.

Just last year, 25 people were killed in a heat wave in the state. But this new move has made students happy who say "now they can study better".
