New Delhi: Bhutan's Prime Minister-in-waiting Tshering Tobgay has thanked Premier Manmohan Singh for his assurance of "steadfast and unflinching" support and asserted his "unwavering resolve and commitment to preserve and strengthen the special ties" with India.

In a letter to Dr Singh, the Bhutanese leader heading People's Democratic Party, said India was instrumental in ensuring the success of democracy and sustaining the pace of socio-economic development in his country.

"My party and I attach the greatest importance to our relations with India which has been consciously nurtured and strengthened over many decades under the wise and able leadership of our successive Kings.

"I would like to further assure Your Excellency of my unwavering resolve and commitment to preserve and strengthen our special ties that has always been based on mutual trust, confidence and understanding," Tobgay said in his letter dated July 17.

He was responding to an earlier letter sent by Dr Singh congratulating him on his party's performance in the elections to the national assembly in Bhutan and assuring him of India's "unflinching" support".

Dr Singh also wrote that he has already instructed officials to prepare for the discussions on plan assistance to Bhutan.

Fuel subsidy to Bhutan, which was cut recently, is part of this plan.
