Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing a rally in Chapra, the political bastion of RJD chief Lalu Prasad, took a swipe at the RJD's leader son, Tejashwi Yadav, who is the Chief Ministerial face of the Mahagathbandhan (Grand opposition alliance) in Bihar. "Today, there is a double engine government in Bihar which is committed for the welfare of people of Bihar. On the other side there are double yuvraj (princes) who are fighting for the throne. They can never think of people of Bihar. One of them is also the crown prince of Jungle Raj," PM Modi said, extending the jibe to Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav, who are fighting the elections together.
Minutes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi finished addressing his first of the four back-to-back rallies today in Bihar, RJD's Tejashwi Yadav and Congress's Randeep Surjewala latched on to his remarks on the "double-engine government" - the ruling JDU-BJP coalition in the state.
"Respected Modi ji, in 2015 election, you said Nitish Kumar had '18th century' mindset. Today, you referred to his government as double engine. The truth is, this is the government of "double deception". One jumlebaz (one who makes false promises) and one who deceives. Bihar voters will give a fair treatment to you both."
Campaigning for the second phase will end Sunday evening.
