Patna:
The Nitish Kumar-led government in Bihar is trying hard to weed out corruption and present a model and efficient administration. They have even said that the property of corrupt officers will be seized and turned into schools which will help children belonging to the economically weaker sections.
But the move has little effect on corrupt officials.
During statewide raids by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Bihar Police on Wednesday, cash and properties worth lakhs and fleet of swanky SUVs were seized from four state government officials.
From one of those raided, Mohd Yunus who's posted as Enforcement Officer in Kaimur, cash worth over Rs 61 lakh was seized along with papers for 25 acres of land, four multi-storey houses and one movie theatre.
Rs 14 lakh cash, 20 lakh investment paper, gold over 200 gm and several properties were seized from Mithilesh Kumar, an Executive Engineer in Rural Works Department during another raid.
Another Executive Engineer, Nageswar Sharma, had a fleet of five costly SUV vehicles which includes two BMWs, one Landcruiser, one Fortuner and One Innova besides 20 properties and investment papers worth Rs 20 lakh.
A DIG rank IPS officer was also raided by the EOW sleuths in Patna. The officer, Alok Kumar, was suspended for threatening a liquor wholesaler.
The government is likely to confiscate their properties and file a case of disproportionate assets against these officials.
