Bihar: Boat capsizes in river, seven dead

Patna: Seven people, including two women, four men and one child, were drowned on Sunday as a boat carrying about 30-40 people capsized near the Baharao Chakia village in Bihar's Patna district.

The boat were carrying them for a fair in Naubatpur.

Search operation is on and six bodies have so far been recovered, Patna (Rural) Superintendent of Police (SP) Chatranil Singh said. However, the toll was likely to increase, he said.

Senior civil and police officials have rushed to the spot to supervise rescue works, Singh said.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has expressed sorrow at the death of seven people and extended his condolences to the bereaved families.

Kumar has also asked the Disaster Management department and the district administration to intensify rescue and relief works, an official release said.
