A child recovering in a Bihar hospital after being injured in Satruday's earthquake.
Motihari, Bihar: Over 50 people have been killed and 170 injured in districts bordering Nepal after the second earthquake today, forcing the Bihar government to order the closure of schools across the state, till Tuesday.
The government officials who are carrying out relief work for the affected on a war footing, have pointed out that the damage in state is not extensive.
Hospitals are working round the clock to provide first aid to those who are being rushed in for medical assistance.
In one such hospital in Motihari district, 5-year-old Moni Kumari is still recovering from her extensive injuries, including a broken skull. She sustained serious injuries after a wall collapsed on her while she was trying to run out of her home following the earthquake.
"Before we could react, the wall collapsed on her. I rusher and pulled her out. She was injured very badly and so I rushed her to hospital ", said her father Baidyanath sahni
But in nearby Madhavpur village, 10-year-old khushi Begum wasn't lucky enough to survive. She too ran out of her house following the earthquake, only to come under the collapsing wall of her neighbour's home. "The entire wall collapsed on her. I raised an alarm. Many people came out but by the time she was pulled out she had died," said her friend Hamida.
Officials say most of the lives lost in the earthquake were due to wall collapses.
The state government has handed over a cheque of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of those killed in the earthquake.
