Bihar Election News Highlights: Tejashwi Yadav, 4 Ministers In Nitish Kumar Government To Contest In 2nd Phase

Bihar Assembly Election 2020: Yesterday at a rally, Nitish Kumar had said that providing 10 lakh jobs would cost the exchequer Rs 1.44 lakh crore annually.

Bihar Assembly Election 2020: "We can do what Chief Minister couldn't achieve in 15 years," he said.

RJD's Tejashwi Yadav is among the most notable candidates in the second and, arguably, the most crucial of the three phases of Bihar assembly elections. His elder brother, Tej Pratap, is trying his luck from Hasanpur in Samastipur district, shifting his base from Mahua in Vaishali.

This morning, Tejashwi Yadav again sharpened his attack on Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who, he said was not able to provide jobs to the people. The RJD leader appealed to the people to vote him to power so that "we can do what Chief Minister couldn't achieve in 15 years".

Yesterday at a rally, Nitish Kumar had said that providing 10 lakh jobs would cost the exchequer Rs 1.44 lakh crore annually.

Without naming Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav, Prime Minister Narendra Modi slammed Mahagathbandhan leadership and said that Bihar has a double engine government which is committed to the development of the state while on the other hand, there are two "Yuvaraj" who are fighting to save their throne.

After tomorrow, Bihar will vote in the final round on November 7 before the results on November 10.

"They Have No Idea": Nitish Kumar On Rivals Tejashwi Yadav, Chirag Paswan
Nitish Kumar, facing twin attacks from opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav and ally-turned-rival Chirag Paswan in the Bihar election campaign, tackled them both in a tweet this morning. Those who are in politics "by inheritance" had no idea of what he had done for Bihar, the Chief Minister tweeted.

"Those who have got everything in inheritance have no idea of the struggle of karmveers (those who do their duty). I have sacrificed everything for Bihar. Service is my devotion," Nitish Kumar tweeted in Hindi with newspaper headlines of his campaign with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Candidates To Watch Out For In Phase 2 Of Bihar Assembly Election
The most prominent faces whose fates are to be decided on November 3 are Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and Mahagathbandhan's (grand alliance) chief ministerial candidate Tejashwi Yadav, who is contesting from the Raghopur constituency in Vaishali district. Mr Tejashwi is pitted against the "giant killer" Satish Kumar Yadav, whom the former had defeated in the 2015 Assembly elections to regain the seat for his party.

Raghopur was considered to be a RJD stronghold as fomer chief ministers Lalu Prasad Yadav had won from the seat twice in succession from 1995, and his wife Rabri Devi had won it in 2005. However, Satish Kumar Yadav had won from the seat fighting on the JD(U) ticket.

Mr Tejashwi's elder brother and RJD leader Tej Pratap Yadav is contesting from the Hasanpur constituency in Samastipur district, where he is pitched against two-time MLA Rajkumar Rai of the JD(U).

Interestingly, Mr Tej's father-in-law Chandrika Roy, who joined JD(U) from RJD is also in the fray this time from the Parsa constituency in Saran district where he faces Chhote Lal Ray of the RJD.

Polling will also take place in the Sarairanjan constituency in Samastipur district, from where JD(U) leader and Bihar Assembly Speaker Vijay Kumar Choudhary is contesting, news agency ANI reported.

Nitish Kumar Avoids Speaking Anything Against Friend-Turned-Foe Sharad Yadav In His Daughters' Constituency
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday addressed a rally in Bihariganj assembly seat from where veteran socialist leader Sharad Yadav's daughter Subhashini Yadav is in the fray on Congress ticket, but refrained from speaking anything against his former party colleague.

Mr Kumar addressed a rally at SBJ High School in Udakishanganj block in Bihariganj constituency where his party nominee Niranjan Mehta is pitted against Subhashini Yadav among others.

Bihariganj seat in the Madhepura district will go to vote in the last phase on November 7.

In his speech, Mr Kumar listed achievements of his successive governments in the state and also made a scathing attack on his main RJD rival, but avoided saying anything either against Sharad Yadav or his daughter.

Subhasini Yadav has taken a plunge into electoral politics in the ongoing Bihar polls, news agency PTI reported.

What About "20-30 Lakh" People Who Were Forced To Migrate: BJP Chief On Tejashwi Yadav's Job Promise
BJP president JP Nadda on Monday made light of Tejashwi Yadavs poll promise of providing 10 lakh government jobs, telling him that "25-30 lakh" people migrated out of Bihar during previous RJD governments and he should first answer that.

Addressing a poll rally at Sitamarhi, the former Union minister also said he keeps reminding people about the alleged misgovernance during the RJDs 15 years rule as the time might have changed but the partys "nature" has not changed.

Mr Tejashwi has run his campaign around his promise that he will sign 10 lakh government jobs in his very first Cabinet meeting if his party comes to power.

"These days our Tejashwi babu keeps saying will give 10 lakh jobs," said Mr Nadda, and then escalated his attack, "You have forced 25-25 lakh people to migrate out of Bihar. Who will answer that?"

"What do you talk? What do you think?" the BJP chief asked the opposition chief ministerial candidate.

"Age Is On My Side," Tejashwi Yadav Tells NDTV On Bihar Election
Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav has said he is fighting big leaders in Bihar who are much older than him as "age is on my side". Mr Tejashwi said he has held over a dozen rallies for the Bihar election and denied criticism that he had gone missing in the months before the election. 

"I have nothing to lose and am happy that I fought on good issues. I have age in my hand and will try to work hard, work more. I'm 31 and this election will surprise everyone. Age is on my side," Tejashwi Yadav told NDTV during the campaign trail. 

"My father is a mass leader... I do take my father's name. But I have to speak on what I can offer them. Now is the time for economic justice and we can't provide economic justice without social justice," said the son of jailed RJD leader Lalu Yadav.

Chirag Paswan Fumes As NDA Ally Seeks Probe Into His Father's Death
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's ally Jitan Ram Manjhi has targeted Chirag Paswan with questions over the death of his father, taking the issue to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Ram Vilas Paswan, who died on October 8 after a long illness, was a minister in PM Modi's cabinet.

In a letter to the Prime Minister, Mr Manjhi called for a judicial investigation into Paswan Senior's death and questioned the conduct of Chirag Paswan, citing a video clip that showed him preparing to record a speech standing next to Ram Vilas Paswan's photo.

So far, the opposition parties have targeted him over it, drawing furious reactions from the 37-year-old leader. But with Mr Paswan pitting himself firmly against Nitish Kumar in the ongoing state elections, the BJP allies have also joined in and Jitan Ram Manjhi has escalated the issue.

31% Candidates In Bihar Phase 3 Polls Have Declared Criminal Cases Against Them: Report
Out of 1,195 candidates contesting in phase-3 of the Bihar assembly elections later this week, 31 per cent have declared criminal cases against themselves, according to a report by poll rights group Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).

About 282 or 24 per cent have declared serious criminal cases against themselves. Serious criminal cases are non-bailable offences attracting over five years of imprisonment, the report said.

As many as 361 or 30 per cent of these candidates have stated their financial assets to be worth crores of rupees, the report said.    
Out of 1,195 candidates analyzed, 371 or 31 per cent have declared criminal cases against themselves, it said.

According to the report, 32 (73 per cent) out of 44 candidates analysed from the RJD have declared criminal cases against themselves and 22 (50 per cent) of them have declared serious criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.

About 26 (76 per cent) out of 34 candidates analysed from the BJP have declared criminal cases against themselves and 22 (65 per cent) have declared serious criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits, the report said.

It said about 19 (76 per cent) out of 25 candidates analysed from the Congress have declared criminal cases against themselves and 14 (56 per cent) have declared serious criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.

About 18 (43 per cent) out of 42 candidates analysed from the LJP, 21 (57 per cent) out of 37 candidates analysed from the JD(U) and 5 (26 per cent) out of 19 candidates analysed from the BSP have declared criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.

Eleven (26 per cent) out of 42 candidates analysed from LJP, 11 (30 per cent) out of 37 candidates analysed from JD(U) and 4 (21 per cent) out of 19 candidates analysed from the BSP have declared serious criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.

As many as 37 candidates have declared cases related to crimes against women and five of them have declared cases related to rape, the report said.

Multiple-term MLA Nitin Nabin faces a challenge in Bankipur from Congress candidate Luv Sinha, who is the son of actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha, a two-time local MP who lost the seat when he entered the fray after quitting the BJP.

Congress leader P Chidambaram took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speeches in his Bihar election rallies over the last two days. The Congress leader said the BJP skipped the major issues concerning the voters like unemployment, MSP for food grains, flood relief, women''s safety, etc.

"What did they (the Bharatiya Janata Party or BJP) tell you about unemployment, jobs, new industries, MSP for food grains, crop insurance, flood relief, women''s safety, etc. The answer is zilch -- nothing. You are being asked to vote for the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) on a message that contains nothing," Mr Chidambaram said.

Nitish Kumar can no longer handle Bihar and his farewell is "guaranteed", opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav said today in the latest serving of his "Chief Minister-too-tired" attacks in this state poll campaign.

A day before the second round of voting in Bihar, the RJD leader also hit back at Nitish Kumar for mocking his stint in cricket.

"Nitish Kumar is unable to handle Bihar. There are vacant jobs in education, health and law and order. There are only 77 policemen per lakh population in Bihar. How come even Manipur has more per lakh? We're asking the public to give us a chance, so we can do what Nitish Kumar couldn't achieve in 15 years.
