Veteran politician Somnath Chatterjee expressed his shock over actor Girish Karnad getting death threats because of his views on Tipu Sultan.
Kolkata:
Expressing that Bihar has shown the rest of the country the "way" to fight against intolerance, former Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee today said that all opposition parties should unite to protest against "misgovernance".
"At this hour when the government is misusing its power and is involved in misgovernance I feel all opposition parties must unite irrespective of their colour and ideology and fight to stop this for the benefit of common people," Mr Chatterjee said.
"The opposition parties should think above their party lines... This is not the time to think for the party. It is the time how to save people and how to save the country," Mr Chatterjee said.
Asked whether the Bihar model could work for other parts of the country, Mr Chatterjee said, "People want to come out and establish a civilised system. The Prime Minister has addressed rallies at least 30 times. At places he (the PM) shouted at people and in some places he promised to provide Bihar with few thousand crores of fund. People were threatened or promised during the campaigning in Bihar elections to get the votes. And that the effort has been defeated by Bihar is a good example.
"Bihar in a real way has shown us the way to fight against intolerance," the veteran politician said.
