Patna:
In a blog posted on Thursday, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar wrote, "An empowered woman makes a vibrant society."
The police in his state is pitching the idea of a battalion made up entirely of women.
A batallion in Bihar has about 600 people.
There are currently 45,000 vacancies in the Bihar Police. On August 15, the government said 35 per cent of these jobs will be reserved for women.
If this idea is approved then the state, which already has an all-women batallion, will have second such unit made up exclusively of all Scheduled Tribe women. And this will be the first in the country.
If Nitish Kumar government approves the idea, then 600 women from Scheduled Tribe community will be inducted in the Bihar Police for this force.
This Bihar Police move according to state DGP, Abhyanand, will benefit two communities of Scheduled Caste - Tharus who are mostly in the Champaran and Oraons in the Jamui district of state.
Right now induction in all-women batallion is complete and training of 600 women constables is going on at present.
