Bulldozers have been controversially used in Uttar Pradesh against violence accused but for the first time, the police used them to help a woman who was thrown out by her husband allegedly over dowry. The incident occurred in Bijnor district after the Allahabad High Court ordered the city police to help the woman, Nutan Malik, get back into her husband's house.
Visuals from outside the house showed a police team informing the husband, Robin's family about the court order and warning them that not complying with the order could lead to action.
"Koi fayda nahi (no point). We request you amma, please open the door. This is the high court's order," an officer is heard saying on the loudspeaker.
A bulldozer was also seen as the cops spoke to the family members.
The police team helped the woman get back into her in-laws' house and the situation is normal now, said Pravin Ranjan Singh, Superintendent of Police (City), Bijnor. On the use of bulldozer, he said the police used force as the family was not agreeing to let the woman in.
The husband's family started harassing her a few days after they got married in 2017, her father said, adding that they also demanded Rs 5 lakh and a Bolero car. "On their demands not being filled, she was thrashed and thrown out of the house. She had been staying with us since 2019.
Then we went to the court which ordered that she be allowed to stay in her in-laws' house," he said. But the husband's family did not comply with the court order so we approached the high court, he said. The Allahabad High Court provided her protection and ordered that the family allows her to stay in their house.
The family, however, didn't open the door for an hour even when the police went there yesterday, following which the cops brought a bulldozer. Only then my daughter could enter the house, he said.
