BJP attacks Congress, says 'UPA is leaderless': highlights
New Delhi: BJP senior leaders Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj today addressed a press conference in New Delhi.

Here are the highlights:

Sushma Swaraj:

  • Happy that some bills could be passed, some debates were conducted - e.g. Lokpal, Telangana
  • Sad that least work was done this session
  • Most disappointing was that Congress MPs were themselves creating disruptions
  • This time, it felt like institutions were eroded
  • The govt says CVC and CAG are hindering development. These institutions are there to keep a watch. They are doing their jobs:
  • CVC and CAG are there for checks and balances. They are of utmost importance in democracy
  • We will tell the people the kind of role the BJP played as the main opposition party
  • It's the people who will decide what role the BJP will play in the 16th Lok Sabh
  • Government has broken all records on corruption

    Arun Jaitley:
  • In 2009, the UPA was at its peak. But then the scams and the corruption made the UPA lose its credibility
  • I see UPA-II as a 'lost opportunity'. They had a great chance. They threw it away
  • UPA suffers from policy paralysis, lack of leadership
  • Attitude of Congress party in Gujarat is that of a bad loser
  • There was no question ever of BJP voting against Telangana, Congress was a late entrant on the Telangana bandwagon
  • Cash for votes, 2G, Coalgate, CWG, VVIP Agusta deal, Adarsh - Rahul Gandhi has never commented on a single issue
  • He is a very late entrant into the anti-corruptions crusader bandwagon
  • Third Front is a failed idea, this country cannot afford the luxury of a failed idea
