Palamu: Asserting that it was taking forward its promise to bring back black money stashed abroad, ruling BJP on Monday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had raised the issue at the G-20 meeting and has been successful in creating consensus at the international level to name all the defaulters.
Addressing a meeting at Manatu village in Palamuon on Monday, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said BJP is committed to its promise on bringing back black money and has already initiated steps in this regard.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi has raised the issue of black money at the meeting of G-20 in Australia. The Prime Minister has helped in creating consensus among the international community to make public the names of all defaulters possessing black money," he said.
The Minister noted that black money was badly affecting the country's economy and the BJP will do everything to create international pressure to get it back.
"BJP stands by its promise to bring back black money stashed abroad and take all steps in this regard," he said.
Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, BJP had promised to bring back black money to India and make the names, of those holding it, public, besides starting an investigation.
It is estimated that lakhs of crores of money has been stashed in safe tax havens abroad.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked every country, especially tax havens, to provide information for tax purposes in accordance with treaty obligations.
Raising the pitch on the black money issue, Mr Modi in his intervention at the summit of the Group of 20 industrialised and major emerging economies called for close global coordination to address the challenge posed by it.
