BJP congratulates Pranab Mukherjee, to probe Karnataka cross-voting
New Delhi: Congratulating Pranab Mukherjee for his victory in the presidential polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday said it will look into cross-voting from Karnataka where the UPA candidate got more votes than his rival from a party-ruled state.

"We congratulate him. Pranab Mukherjee is a respected person, he will enhance the glory of Rashtrapati Bhavan," BJP spokesperson Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said after the results were declared.

Asked about the cross-voting in Karnataka, he said: "We will look in the issue."

United Progressive Alliance candidate Mukherjee obtained more votes than rival P.A. Sangma, backed by the BJP and other opposition parties, from the BJP-ruled state.

Mr Naqvi however said it would be wrong to see the results in context of the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

"It should not be connected to the 2014 Lok Sabha election. The president poll in on party lines, while the Lok Sabha poll depends on the people," he said.
